WOMEN MUST BE PREPARED TO ENTER PARLIAMENT

There is a possibility of more women contesting in the next general elections as the current political scene created an opportunity for them by taken on board three women MPs.

But women will need to campaign as men have been doing and should be not looking at free handouts from the systems in place. The 22 women reserve seats for women is a slap on the face for this young country. Where in the developed world are women given free access to hold position in the public office? PNG Women’s Council has its version to this issue to justify their stance but we are a developing nation and just cannot jump into conclusion that women can do a better job than men.

  

If Delilah Gore, Lujaya Kouza and Julie Soso campaigned and raced against millionaires and other political savvy men to become victorious, how can the concept of providing free seats for sluggish women be seen as tangible? They must sweat, walk and campaign like the men did so that they would understand what it takes to being in power and not to be asking to be preyed upon as “rubber stamps” in the long run.

Women are emotional beings and men are logical beings. Decision based on emotional grounds are not healthy and can be damaging for a young nation, we need logical debates and strategic decision. Strong women leaders are needed today and should not take a free ride on the sweat of the current female MPs who are currently ambassadors of the general women folk and at a time when our country is facing a great transition. Politics and motherhood do not mix well!

Political leadership and acumen for women are developed and refined over many years. It’s not an overnight decision; because sacrifices will need to be made or are forced upon to alter nature’s set laws.

It’s a man’s game out there but if want to play it; you got have the right combination to stay in the game.

Delilah Gore’s various portfolios have basically proven to the nation that women can be leaders of this nation. But her personal traits, skills and background determined her political career and it was not an overnight decision or a sudden burst of inspiration. She was groomed and tasked responsibilities as a leader in her local community to lead and serve plus her own personal life and faith prepared  her for greater responsibilities and so may have been her other two colleagues.

So women be weary and asses yourself before taking on these turf journey and have in mind our society’s way of rule and order. Otherwise save your strength and savings for your children, it will be very competitive the next coming elections.
